Missed a day - April 5, Strasbourg

April 5 - we took a tour of Strasbourg. The first stop was taking a look at the storks. There is a road where every tree has a large storks nest at the top. Amazing to see them like this.

Then a walk thru the old town.

A trip to the Dom.

Jer and I then split from the main group and had lunch in town while we waited for the museums to open.

In the afternoon we went to four museums; the musee des beaux arts, musee Archeologique, musee des arts Decoratifs, and musee Historique.

Relief sculpture in the Historique.

Stairwell leading down to the Archeologique.

Sorry for the time jump. Wanted to make sure I had all the cities covered.

Basel and farewell

We check out this morning. This is our view from the ship.
The colors are breathtaking. As ships go by the ripples in the water alternate between a dark ultramarine blue and a deep black while the yellow of the street lights dances on the crests.

After breakfast we check out and head to the airport :(

Last stop - Colmar, France

This afternoon we took the bus tour to Colmar. I lovely little medieval town.
This little town is so photogenic, and happens to be the home town of the artist Bartholdi. Bartholdi is the designer of the Statue of Liberty.

The Dom

Another statue by Bartholdi. The weight of the world resting on work, justice and peace.

This was bitter sweet. A great way to end our trip but said to know that we leave tomorrow. This truly has been a marvelous trip.

Bon-jour
Tot Ziens
Auf Weidersehen

For now. We will be back.

Breisach - still the last day

We had about 2 hours between our tours so instead of eating lunch we decides to take a self guided walking tour of Breisach the city where we docked. We can eat when we get home.

Great choice! Beautiful medieval fortress town. The walk up to the Dom was methodical and breath taking. Every curve in the road reveals a little bit of the city to you, never showing all it has to offer at once. It's a dance.
Love this little town!

Oh, did I mention that there are lots of swans on Rhine? We woke up to a pair outside our window this morning.

Life is a fairy tale :)

The Black Forest - our last day :(

Today we took a bus tour of the Black Forest.
First stop was St. Peter's to see the Dom.

Couple images taken on the road.

Roman aqueduct in the Black Forest.

The cuckoo clock factory.

And if you are in the Black Forest you have to have Black Forest cake and if you have Black Forest cake you may as well have some cherry schnapps in your coffee :)
So we did!

Not sure, but I may have seen Hansel and Gretel hitch hiking on one off the mountain roads.

This day is just getting started.

Heidelberg

We docked at Worms, then took a bus to Heidelberg. First thing - the castle.

The good luck foot print.
Our guide said that if you place your foot in this spot you will return to Heidelberg and be happy no matter where you live.

Perfect fit for us both :)

View from the castle.

On to the bridge.

Jer on the bridge with the castle behind him.

Next, Philosopher's walk. A steep climb up the hill, well worth it for the view.

Last stop Vetter's, for food and beer. (thanks for the tip Wendy!)

Wendy is right, best kasespaetzle on earth.

Next stop - Speyer.

An evening in Rudesheim

The boat docked in Rudesheim this evening. Jer and I took advantage of the free time on shore. The town was quiet but beautiful. We walked around the city and found a quiet place to eat dinner.
Here are a few images of the streets and shops.

Our quiet little restaurant.

And the best German food.

Yep, Jer had a plate full of sausages. :)

Tomorrow - Heidelberg
